Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Upostem (“Upostem,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our marketplace, where you hire vetted contractors and buy and sell items locally, on the web and in the Upostem mobile app (together, the “Platform”), serving the United States. By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide and information generated as you use the Platform:
- Account information: your first name and last initial, email address, password, and your role (homeowner or contractor).
- Contractor application information: trades, service area (ZIP codes), phone number, business name and registration details, license details we verify against the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), and insurance information and documents you upload.
- Job and message content: job descriptions, the service address where the work will happen, quotes, scheduling details, reviews, messages you exchange with the other party, and any photos or documents you upload for a job or listing. In the mobile app you can add photos from your photo library or by taking a new photo with your camera.
- Notifications and device information: if you enable push notifications in the mobile app, we store a device push token and a per-install device identifier so we can send you notifications.
- Diagnostics: as the mobile app matures we collect crash and performance diagnostics to keep the app stable and fix errors.
- Marketing signups: if you subscribe to updates, your email and an optional ZIP code.
- Usage and location data: log data, the search queries you enter, and an approximate location based on the ZIP code you enter for search or service area. We do not collect your precise or GPS location.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- operate the Platform, match homeowners and contractors, and manage jobs;
- verify contractor licenses and maintain trust and safety;
- send transactional messages and, if you opt in, push notifications;
- provide support and respond to your inquiries;
- keep the app stable through crash and performance diagnostics; and
- improve, secure, and protect the Platform and prevent abuse.
3. How we share information
When a homeowner and contractor connect on a job, we share the information needed to complete it. For example, we share a homeowner's job details with the contractor they engage, and a contractor's profile and verification status with homeowners.
We also share information with service providers who process it on our behalf under confidentiality obligations, including: our database, authentication, and storage provider (Supabase); our payment processor (Stripe); our email providers (Postmark and Resend); our SMS provider (Twilio); push-notification delivery (Expo, Apple, and Google); crash and performance diagnostics (Sentry); and the Florida DBPR, which we query to verify a contractor's license. We share information when required by law or to protect rights and safety. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your information to track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
On the web we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Platform is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them. The mobile app does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking.
5. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Platform, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it. See Deleting your account and data below for what happens when you delete your account.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can update much of your account information directly, and you can opt out of marketing emails at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
8. Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time, in the Upostem app under Account → Delete account, or by emailing us at support@upostem.com.
When you delete your account, we anonymize it: we remove your name, email, phone number, and profile details and close the account so it can no longer be used to sign in. At the same time we erase or de-identify the content you created, including your job details and service addresses, the messages you sent, your marketplace listings, and the text and photos of reviews you wrote, and we delete the photos and documents you uploaded from our file storage. Some records are kept as required by law and for legitimate business needs, for example completed payment, payout, and refund records, the star ratings you gave (shown without your name), and dispute outcomes and safety records, and are retained in de-identified form. Deletion can take effect only after any unfinished activity is resolved (an open job, an open dispute, a pending payout, or a payment in progress).
9. Children's privacy
The Platform is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “last updated” date, and significant changes may be communicated through the Platform.
